Ross Williamson was born in Katanning, Western Australia.
He qualified as a lawyer in 1986. He is married with two children. Among his interests are shooting (he once qualified for the State skeet team), hunting and horseriding.

Ross Williamson is the author of the Firearms Law Newsletter, which keeps sporting shooters up to date with the latest legal and political developments affecting the right to private gun ownership.

From High Court appeals, to helping people deal with the police at local police station level, he is involved in all levels of legal practice.

Much of his work is done in the country.
